Speakers

Lt. Gen. Larry D. James, USAF Commander, Joint Functional Component Command - Space, United States Strategic Command and Commander, 14th Air Force General James commands the 14th Air Force (Air Forces Strategic), Air Force Space Command, and the Joint Functional Component Command for Space, USSTRATCOM. He leads more than 20,500 personnel responsible for providing missile warning, space superiority, space situational awareness, satellite operations, space launch, and range operations. He directs all USSTRATCOM space forces, providing tailored, responsive, local and global space effects in support of national, USSTRATCOM, and combatant commander objectives. General James earned a Bachelor of Science degree in astronautical engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and a Master of Science degree in astronautical engineering from MIT. DR. FRED P. LEWIS Dr. Fred P. Lewis, Director of Weather, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. As the Director of Weather, Dr. Lewis develops doctrine, policy, requirements, and standards to organize, train, and equip the weather career field to support the Air Force, Army, and the national intelligence community. He plans, programs, and budgets for vital weather resources; manages the $350 million annual weather program; directs the Air Force Weather (AFW) Field Operating Agency located at Offutt Air Force Base; and provides functional oversight of the AFW total force. Dr. Lewis previously led efforts to implement a total force transformation of the Air Force's weather functional area to significantly improve weather support for operators worldwide. He retired from the Air Force in 2000 in the rank of brigadier general.
